First and foremost, I wanna thanks Medic Ed for organizing this event so that I have this oppurtunity to share about our life in INDONESIA. Every student in Russia and Bandung may have new experiences full of joy and happiness but for USU students, our life are totally different from them. Usu student’s life started with the taste of bitter then continue with sour, sweet and spicy compared with those students in Russia and Bandung. This is because we have to start from a new point with unfamiliar place and without guide, in bahasa Indonesia. This is what we mean of BELAJAR MANDIRI,which is independent. Belajar mandiri, these two words are not easy to learn because we have difficulty in communication due to language problem. Next, our life with bitter, sour, sweet and spicy will be explained more in the following stories.

Masam, Manis, Pahit, Pedas:

The first day after we reached airport, we were handed to the guiders who sent us back to our hostel. At first, it is comfirm that many of us cannot get used to the new situation here because the weather here was very hot and dry. We all complaining non-stop about the absence of air conditioner and regret to choose medan as our place to have uni life. I can bet that all Malaysian cannot get used to Medan’s SUPER hot and dry weather! Besides, we all have to worry about what and where to have our meals because we are not familiar with this place. However, we have to learn to adapt everything as soon as possible because this is the place that we will have to spent with in the next five years. I can still remember my first night in Medan, all of us can’t sleep due to HOME SICK , hot weather, noisy mosquitoes and many other reasons. All these memories will not vanish in my brain because these are all the process of learning Mandiri.

After the short honeymoon for us to adapt ourselves to the environment and food, a new problem appeared! All of us are compulsory to attend the school’s orientation which was held by Indonesian seniors. From the stories and rumours told by seniors, we can tell that this orientation will be full of BULLY and GANGSTERISM! We went through these three days finger-crossed and experienced many things that we never had. By doing so, we finally understand that the aim of this orientation is to teach us the value of HUMBLE for a medical student or doctor. We are all glad because we passed the orientation successfully but the price we had to pay was we boys have to all become BOTAK!!

This is what we call OSPEK USU!!!

The next few days after orientation, USU students experienced the most scary and unforgettable memory which we will never have in Malaysia! We experienced the first EARTH-Quakein our life which is 6.5 from north part of Sumatera! I can still remember everyone was getting to bed and all of sudden I can feel my furnitures and see the whole buildings shaking for around 10 seconds. I believe that everyone reacted like how I did which was too shocked to do anything and freeze on the spot without realizing that this is an earthquake! When I finally pull my souls back, everyone is shouting and gathered outside our rooms. Luckily we are only slightly affected and are safe from the disaster.

Journey as a MEDICAL STUDENT STARTS!

After finished facing all those problems, all we have to do is to start our uni life as a medical student. First thing we have to learn the transportation from our hostel to university. In Medan, we have many types of public transportation including Angkut, Becak and Taxi. Most of us took Angkut to university because it is affordable for every students. Each journey only costs about RP2000. It is a type of mini van that can fit at least 15 people during peak period. Can you imagine how crowded and terrible it is in this hot weather of Medan? When we are running out of time or heading to other places such as shopping complexes, we prefer taking Becak. It is something resemble “three wheeled car” in Malaysia, except that the bicycle is replaced by motorcycle. It can fit maximum 4 person. However, we have to bargain for the price because there is no fix price for becak man. Most of us were cheated by them because we are not familiar yet with the places and prices. As a result, we payed more than it worths. As for taxi, I can say that Indonesia’s taxi has higher quality than Malaysia’s because their service is quick and comfortable with reasonable price.

One of the most common problem every students will face while studying overseas is the problem of communications. Within the first few weeks of our uni life, we cant understand everything said by the teachers which is called dosen and also our Indonesian mates. We are so blur and scared because we are afraid of missing out anything that is important. Only then we realize that Bahasa Melayu has very big difference from Bahasa Indonesia. For example, toilet in BM is tandas while in BI is karma mandi. We called uncle as pakcik in Malaysia but bapak in Indonesia. The word can (boleh) in bahasa Indonesia is bisa and no (tak) is enggak. The slang and pronounciation also have big difference from Bahasa Melayu. Although it is tough, the process of learning a new language can be fun. After few months of learning and practising, we can now speak in local language fluently. We found many new Indonesian friends and learned how to communicate with them in their own language. We realize that we slowly changed ourselves to suit this new environment and sometimes, others can’t even differentiate whether we are locals or Malaysian!

We started our life as a medical student even before we can get used to the environment and cultures. This is not an easy process for us because the system for university has so much difference from our high school or college life. First of all, we have lecture classes from Monday to Saturday. The time table is so pact that the maximum time for us having lectures in university is 10 hours (7am to 5pm) per day! Besides, we also have lots of practical lab, tutorial and presentation that we have to prepare for and study. All kinds of quiz and exams will be held once in a while. Holiday is so rare that we can only have the first day of holiday after three months of uni life which is during Christmas. The chances of getting back home or rest well during holiday is the biggest awards and appreciation for all our hard works and sacrifices. We always have to be mentally and physically well prepared. This process is hard that we always complain and getting emotional over things. However, we learned many things such as managing time tables and enjoy the joy of earning knowledge ourselves as a medical student. People may think that this is a MISSION IMPOSSIBLE but we know that this is what we have to pay to fulfill our dream to become a dentist or a doctor.

A Chinese phrase saying: “we depends on our parents at home, but depends on our friends atoutside.” This is true to us because wherever you go, friends will always be an important and essential element in our life. Without the help and guides from others, we will never be able to survive on our own. We are glad that we have known many seniors, Indonesian and Malaysian who are honest, helpful and always sincere to us. Malaysia may be a more developed country compared to Indonesia by having better economy and technologies. However, there is one thing that Malaysian should learn from Indonesian which is their POLITENESS. From what we observed and experienced, we can say that Indonesian are always polite to everyone and respect their elders very much. We also get to know many seniors from Malaysia who always share their experiences with us and guide us through difficulties.

Many people assume that the biggest benefit to study overseas is that we get to travel in that country. However, this is a wrong statement for USU students. Russia students have snow and Red Square; Bandung students have shopping heaven but USU students are very lack of entertainment and places to visit because the nearest vacation spot from us needs 5 hours of travelling. We only got TWO shopping malls here. All we can do is everyday to stay at home and study. Maybe because of this, our results will be better than them? Lol

We started our journey of learning and living independently once we stepped out of our home. The first thing we learned is to cook our own meal. Despite saving more by cooking ourselves, self-cooked meals are more hygiene. The IBU we knew in the hostel teached us to cook many simple but delicious dishes. One of the most delicious and successful dish we learned from her is Ayam GorengBumbu Indonesia. We also learned cocacola chicken, ketchup chicken, curry fish and many more. Although cooking is a very simple process for many people, we learned to be independent by studying how to cook. We also realized that our parents’ sacrificed and effort of feeding us for the past 18 years. This is what we call BELAJAR MANDIRI. Besides, we get another back-up plan if we don’t want to become a doctor or dentist in the future, that is to become a CHEF! HAHAHA That is the amazing part of becoming an USU student. Although we can send our clothes to laundry or pay for the ibu who will wash the clothes for us, we chose to wash our clothes ourselves to save our parents’ money because they have spent too much to send us study overseas. These jobs may seem easy but they could be the experiences we will never have if we are at home or studying local. Now, we allEARN it by our own hands!!!

Although we are at Indonesia, we never forget about our own origin and cultures. This is how we celebrated our traditional DONG ZHI by having fun of making colourful TANG YUAN. This is because tang yuan resembles reunion of family. Therefore, no matter how far we go, we always stay with our dearest family and friends.

We also bring the pre-celebration atmosphere of Chinese new year to medan.

We had started our life as USU medical student in Medan for five months. We had encountered numerous problems and questions to be solved. Some of us regret and some of us wanted to give up on this. Although we had a hard time to solve every problems, I am very proud to say I DID IT! It is also proven that my university USU has a unique but efficient education system. I strongly recommend that students who like challenges to choose USU as their medical education pathway. A medical student studying in USU may invite more challenges and difficulties on themselves but this will definitely strengthen their mental and ability to be a best dentist or doctor in the future. I will also recommend USU for my three sisters because I believe that this a place that will groom many EXCELLENT dentists and doctors. This is because a life for an USU medical student is NO SWEET WITHOUT SWEAT. If I am given a chance to choose again, I definitely will choose USU again. I AM PROUD TO BE A USU STUDENT!

其实我已经很久很久很久很久没有这样搞怪了。。
连我都忘记我疯狂的一面 :(
来到这边三个月了
也慢慢习惯这边的生活。。
有时会一直怀疑自己
是不是我真的做错了选择？
来到这样的国家留学生活费用高，环境有恶劣
又不能看到家人朋友。。
有时真的很想回到以前重新选择！
还是学不会面对现实。。有时还会以为自己还在马来西亚
来到这里没有所谓的知心朋友
大家表面上嬉皮笑脸，其实都在勾心斗角
语言问题让我变得很安静就好像一个孤僻的小孩不开口说话
其实我好不喜欢这样。。我明明就很开朗好吗！
每次看到好朋友们聚会，其实我很羡慕也很希望我跟他们在一起
这边的生活除了读书吃饭就没什么了
不敢乱出去因为花钱又肮脏危险
有时真的很烦很闷！
有很久很久没有打扮
自信心也一直减低中。。。
好希望我的好姐妹们现在就在我的身边 :'(

下星期本来会是一个很开心的日子
可是我竟然要考midterm
平时会很期待的我今年反而想平平淡淡的过
反正这里也没几个好朋友
还是努力加油读书考好来，就当是送给自己的礼物好了 :)

Finally i got time to update my blog!!!!!am taking my medicine course in Universitas Sumatera Utara, Medan, Indonesia.It had been a month and really feels as if a year already passed =( Life is so different here.

Visited my university before i came here and thought here is like undeveloped city.When i asked my agent where is the city, she answered me here it is, and i was like......HUH?I really can't imagine myself living here for five years.

Whatever it is, i am already here. I slowly get used to everything and never feel lonely with all my friends living together in the same room.

Well,what had i done for these first three weeks in Medan? I explored Medan, started my uni life and will be having my first exam this saturday.(hmm...and yet i am blogging?)Medan has shopping mall like KLCC also and we will see lots of local chinese. THEY ARE SO DAMN RICH!!!!!Everyone of them has REAL LV,GUCCI,BLAHBLAHBLAH...and i dont know why they are all so freaking pretty with their long curly hair and flawless face.Many of them go to those high class saloon just to wash and style their hair...OMG...feel like a kakak in indonesia..T^T Become darker and darker with the super sunshine...i wonder why the locals are still so white!and pimples popping out since it's too hot here!

One of the things i want to share is the university's orientation. It's sososo different from ours and i only went for the first day and skipped the rest. Their culture is BULLY!!!First of all, we have to make ourselves look stupid. For example, tied 20+ braids on your head, boys must botak licin (WAHAHA!!) make some stupid hat etc. and then the torturing part started. Seniors will scream at us and do anything to humiliate us. Some of the examples, they have to bath using some lapsap water which some of them said is shit + water, ooxx the tree with sound (Victor jiejie sure like it very much!) etc. Of course, i skipped all.After that unilife started, met so many new friends but i cant really understand their local language..It's so confusing.Better part is local chinese can speak english with us =)

well, beside the boring environment (i get bored of shopping malls seriously and the air is so polluted), boring food (spicy nasi goreng,spicy nasi ayam, spicy maggie goreng), hot weather (which make me thought that i am in afrika and sweating everyday),i still like Medan. Their locals are all so friendly and helpful and nice and PRETTY and lengzai.BUT i really miss Malaysia so much. My home, the food, the aircon (no aircon here) ='( and my friends.

have to study hard for my exam!!!! all the best to myself and hope that my hair grow faster, my face no more pimples, and i become fairer. =)

It's like the LAST week i am going to stay in malaysia and soon i am going abroad for my medical studies!!!! It's like so fast!!!!Am i prepared????Am i mature enough to face everything alone out there?Am i strong enough to take all the challenges and stress on those books and questions??I need STRENGTH now....=(

am going to a sabah trip on sunday and then go kl for my departures...left two days in home.Never gonna meet my friends again!!! I can just say everyone is too busy. We've grown up and life ain't easy like only study and play. Some people changed, some people just keep you deep inside and i believe my friends still love me =)

It's really a long time since i updated my blog right?
finally i want to write something and clean up the dust
that is me and my yobo showing off our rings =)
we got married that day =D
we didnt plan and wore couple tee!!!
that was the day after i cut my hair
5B *FINALLY* want to have a gathering and farewell and birthday party!
it's like really a loong time i hanging out with them!
well i mean i had been quarantined for three months and never got to meet them during cny and finally after nearly 100+ days i meet them okay?! T^T

three months passed so fast!
there are so many memories inside the camp and our heart
i can still remember the first day i went in
i carried my super heavy bag all along five stations for reporting and checking
and i get one name tag D16-09
and i drag everything of mine to my dorm which is the last and furthest one
and i opened the door
saw many strangers looking at me
and yes,i am the type of people that won't talk to strangers
but to my suprise they talked to me,asked me about myself
and soon i met the five chinese in my dorm
and i remember two of them crying everyday for the first two weeks!
after that i get to know we got 4 company:alpha,bravo,charlie,delta
and i am in DELTA!
then there we started off our life in there
we learned a lot of tepuktepuk there
we did senam robic,senam seni and pt pagi
we did KKJ-Kontrak kita janji
have our own slogan,song and flag
then we have lots of classes
CB-character building
KN-kenegeraan
MBK-something about business i only remember we used to say it was"mak bapa kahwin XD"
every wednesday and thursday buddhist will have classes
every sunday we will go to temple to eeeaaaattt
after that we have kraf hutan classes
and many more!
we have sports day and i took part in bola jaling and get the first!!
we went out a lot after chinese new year
we did flying fox and postmen walk
we kawad
we did kembara halangan
we used M16!!
and the last week we went into forest and did wirajaya...
within all these days,i came to know so many people from different places
and when the time come for us to leave,i even thinking of hiding inside the camp and don't want to go back XD!!

i joined many things and luckily never get the last

This december is the busiest december in my life!!
my SPM ended at 14th
and the very next day i headed off to my graduation trip with elmos and cookies!!
this is certainly one of the best time in my life ❤
yes we quarreled,but just as what darling said: even we quarrel,we know that it just make our friendship get stronger
i will definitely love these 8 days

2011,a brand new year will start soon

in 2010,
I took SPM and ended my secondary school life
I quarrel with friends and cried and friendships recovered and stronger
I love my family more although we faced problems often
I get to know more about my friends which i don't familiar
I met him
There are certainly memories that is precious to me and i wish that they won't fade too soon
Our teacher's day performance
Our Year end Trip(will talk about it later)
and manymanymanymany more

and i know in 2011
i will be facing lots of challenges
I will be in national service for 3 months,with a whole gang of strangers without family and friends
I will receive my SPM results
I will have to choose my future path
I will have to start all over again in a new environment
I will have to separate with my dear elmos and cookies
I will have to make new friends
and I wish that everything will not be out of control
I hope that everything will be fine =)

when you are sufing internet,
when you are throwing your money out just to get happy,
when you are ignoring your family's care and love to you,
do you ever know that there many more people in this world are suffering?
They are suffering from hunger,lacking of water,unhygiene environment,illnessand
10 from 20 children in the world are suffering from CHILD ABUSE

Child abuse is more than bruises or broken bones. While physical abuse is shocking due to the scars it leaves, not all child abuse is as obvious. Ignoring children’s needs, putting them in unsupervised, dangerous situations, or making a child feel worthless or stupid are also child abuse. Regardless of the type of child abuse, the result is serious emotional harm.
HOWEVER,
there are many misunderstood in child abuse.

1.Many of us who never take actions to prevent it assume that child abuse is only one of the family problems in one family,so just let the family itself to solve the problem

We should know that no one except public could save the child from his or her nightmare.It is true that abused children are more likely to repeat the cycle as adults, unconsciously repeating what they experienced as children. Although many adult survivors of child abuse have a strong motivation to protect their children against what they went through and become excellent parents. However,there are many records state that most of criminals are done by those who experienced the problem

2.Only bad people and strangers abuse children

While it's easy to say that only "bad people" abuse their children, it's not always so black and white. Not all abusers are intentionally harming their children. Many have been victims of abuse themselves, and don’t know any other way to parent. Others may be struggling with mental health issues or a substance abuse problem.You might see your neighbour smiling all day long,but you don't know what really happened in the house,Am i right?It's also true that there are child abusers who are strangers,but many of them are also friends and family members!Remember,neglecting and humiliating constantly also counts.

3.This doesn't happen in good families and the abused child should have injuries on him

Child abuse doesn't only happen in poor families or bad neighborhoods. It crosses all racial, economic, and cultural lines. Sometimes, families who seem to have it all from the outside are hiding a different story behind closed doors. Moreover,many wealthy family has strict discipline upon their child and give harsh punishment to child when he done wrong without knowing that the child is suffering and gasping for a concern.Physical abusement such as neglecting,frequent yelling, threatening, or bullying and even limited physical contact such as hugs or kisses are also considered as child abuse.These treat to emotional violence and mostly lead to serious mental illness.

Of many child abuse's examples mentioned,one of the most common case is SEX CHILD ABUSE.

Sexual abuse can be physical, verbal or emotional and can include:

kissing or holding a child in a sexual manner
'flashing' or exposing a sexual body part to a child
speaking to children about sexual matters
making obscene phone calls or remarks to a child or young person
sending obscene emails or text messages to a child or young person
fondling a child or young person's body in a sexual manner
persistent intrusion of a child's privacy
penetration of the vagina or anus either by the penis, finger or any other object
oral sex
rape
incest
showing pornographic films, magazines or photographs to a child
having a child pose or perform in a sexual manner
forcing a child to watch a sexual act
child prostitution

The exact figures for child sexual abuse are unknown.Most abuse is commmitted by someone the victim knows and trusts.People who sexually abuse children come from all walks of life. They can be male or female.Most child sex offending occurs within or close to the child's home.Sexual abuse can affect children for the rest of their lives.

another case is PHYSICAL ABUSE.
Child physical abuse is the intentional infliction of injury on a child. In most cases, the person causing the abuse can be a family member or caregiver. A single incident of physical abuse can result in severe trauma, but generally, the more often the physical abuse occurs the greater the impact on the child.The symptoms of physical abuse include signs of injury, such as unexplained bruises, burns, scrapes, or broken bones.

There are still many more examples to be listed out but i believed that your hearts started to ache and can't help asking

"What can we do to stop this!"

Knowing the FACTS
Child abusers can be any age, any gender, and any race. They can be from any economic class and have any level of education. Children are more likely to be abused by their own parents than by a stranger. Rarely does an incident of child abuse happen in isolation. When a child is abused once, it is likely to happen again.

Educate others
Educate your neighbors and friends about child abuse. Consider emailing your acquaintances a link to this article. Or, ask an official from a local domestic violence shelter to speak to your neighborhood group, church association, PTA, or other organization. They are usually more than willing to share what they know about how to prevent child abuse.

TEACH them
Tell children about inappropriate touches. Let them know that their body is not to be touched in any way that makes them uncomfortable or hurts and that it doesn't matter who it is; they shouldn't be touched on any private area of their body. Don't only say that adults shouldn't do it to them because a lot of abuse stories are of a child being molested by other kids or teens like siblings, cousin, peers and etc. Be sure to stress the importance of 'telling' if they are being molested, no matter the age or relation of the abuser, whether it's a sibling, cousin, aunt, uncle, parent, or stranger; teach them to tell someone they trust if they are hurt and never be afraid or keep it a secret.

Reach out your HANDS
Never hestitate to ask a children about his life."How are you?"As simple as that can make a big difference!Remember to LISTEN to them and OBSERVE.There are many signs we can take note such as bruises,avoid eye contact and shows extreme in behavior.If you suspect child abuse or you know it's happening...call for help and do not give up until you know that child is safe!!!!

尤其是今年
这几天一直在我脑海里的问题很多
